Business Profile: Founded in 1887 in Cleveland, OH, Ingersoll Cutting Tools is a world leader in the design and manufacture of both standard and special indexable cutting tools. In addition to innovative solutions for high-performance milling and the project-focused engineering of special cutting tool solutions, Ingersoll offers a full range of metal removal technology for all industries. Now, 125 years later, the company is based in Rockford, Illinois, with another division in Germany, and as part of the IMC Group (Ingersoll’s parent company) has representation around the world. The IMC Group is 100 percent owned by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway and is the second-largest cutting tool manufacturer in the world.
Client Background: Ingersoll Cutting Tools is one of Colorwave Graphics’ longest-standing customers, with projects spanning over 20 years, ranging from display booths to fleet graphics and interior signage.
Objectives and Goals: To celebrate its 125th anniversary in Cleveland, Ingersoll Cutting Tools held a Gold Rush event named for the company’s signature line of tools. However, Ingersoll also wished to deliver excitement for achieving a major milestone and publicly boast its signature product line back home in Rockford, IL.
Challenges: Discover a unique approach to providing an impact that speaks to Ingersoll’s foothold as a worldwide provider of the best cutting tools in the industry, solidify its Gold Rush marketing campaign and celebrate a quasquicentennial (125 year) anniversary with its employees and Rockford’s manufacturing community.
Graphic Solutions: An impressive curved wall of glass, four stories high by 100 feet wide, faces Interstate 90 from one of several buildings on the Ingersoll Cutting Tools campus. In collaboration with Ingersoll’s internal marketing team, Colorwave proposed to wrap these windows with a massive collage of the Gold Rush signature product line.
Results and Outcomes: Colorwave Graphics surveyed, measured, and provided a scale digital template for Ingersoll’s marketing team to design a collage and integrated message covering 1,400 square feet of glass windows. Ingersoll’s management preferred the glass was not completely blocked out and still offered a view of the outdoors from within the building. The challenge was met by printing onto 70/30 perforated window film and laminated with an optically clear gloss finish. This provided a nearly see-through effect from within while offering durable, vibrant graphics to thousands of passerbyers each day from the interstate. The graphics were printed to fit each glass section and Installed by two CWG team members via an articulating boom lift from the center out ensuring exact alignment. The results were phenomenal!
“Mike and his team at Colorwave Graphics exceeded our expectations per usual! Everything went smoothly from the initial design stage to installation; the graphics fit perfectly and looked even better than we envisioned. Thank you, team Colorwave for making us look good!”
